Patricia Dovey

Patricia Ellen (Barber) Dovey, of Dover, PA, was received into heaven on Saturday, January 20, 2024.  Patricia was born July 24, 1941 to Andrew and Tillie Barber.  She grew up in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, where she was a majorette for the Southmoreland Scotties.  Pat was a lifelong learner and obtained bachelor’s degree from Carlow College, Master’s degrees from California University of PA and West Virginia University and a Doctorate of Education from Temple University.

In August of 1981, Pat married Robert Lee Dovey and they shared a very adventurous and loving 42 year relationship until her final days.  Pat and Bob also shared a love of education.  Patricia spent 31 years in education serving as Superintendent for Littlestown School District, Acting Superintendent for Dover School District, and various administrative roles for Dover and Greensburg Salem School Districts.  Prior to her role as an administrator, Pat spent many years as a reading specialist and elementary teacher. Her passion and commitment to learning has blessed hundreds of students over the years.

Patricia was a talented and well-rounded individual who enjoyed tennis, pickleball, dancing, the casino, and being in the sun whether on the beach or with the top down in her convertible.  She was extremely creative and an accomplished artist!  She has blessed the family with many of her own beautiful oil paintings that provide endearing memories.

Her family is deeply saddened by her loss.  She leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend, Robert Dovey, and four children–Her son Shawn Lochinger and his wife Joyce, daughter Tawn Ketterman and her husband Kent, step-son Mark Dovey and his partner Ed, step-son Brad Dovey and his wife Leslie.  She also leaves behind five granddaughters who have beautiful memories of fun times at Nana’s house–Allegra (Tyler) Novotny, Jenna (Victor) Bench, Emily Dovey, Lexi (Tom) Reynolds, and Shay Lochinger.  She leaves four great grandchildren, McKenna and Declan Novotny, and Emilia and Oliver Bench.  She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her two sisters, Bea Kotchey (2007) and Geraldine Pravlik (1988).

The family is having a private Celebration of Life on February 17th.
