Lewis Gary Kamin passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2026 at the age of 80,
surrounded by family and his beloved dog, Ollie.
Born October 5, 1945, Lew was the son of Sylvia Shiffman and Sol Kamin. He spent much of his
early childhood in Lewistown, PA before living in Oakland, CA and then settling in State College,
PA. He grew up in a large, loving, and spirited extended family, surrounded by devoted aunts,
uncles, and cousins, who shaped his life in countless ways. Throughout his life, he was known
for his quick wit, charisma, generosity and good heart.
Lew graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a degree in business accounting.
Upon graduation, he started a private practice where he prepared individual and business tax
returns. This led to a distinguished career in finance, serving thirty-three years as Comptroller at Dante's Inc., before joining Stone Valley Construction and later Commercial Realty, LLC. Lew
was a highly respected professional with a steady presence in the business industry and
known for his knowledge, work ethic, problem solving skills and being results-oriented. He was
an avid reader and had an excellent way with words.
Lew loved Happy Valley and was happiest surrounded by the people, places, and routines that
made it home. He was a loyal Penn State fan who looked forward to fall football Saturdays and
many other PSU events. Lew enjoyed summer beach trips with family and friends, walking his
dog, working in the yard, listening to his favorite musicians, and rarely passed up a trip to Meyer Dairy for a Mexi Hot or banana split. He was a creature of habit, remaining loyal to the same barber for decades and the familiar establishments in downtown State College.
Lew was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether someone needed assistance with a
project, advice, or simply a friendly conversation. He had a special gift with animals, especially
dogs, who seemed to instinctively trust him. Throughout his life, they were constant
companions, bringing him great joy and, in his final days, great comfort.
Over the years, it became especially clear what mattered most to him. Through the stories he
shared and the memories he returned to time and again, Lew's love for family, faith, and
tradition were of utmost importance. He found comfort in being surrounded by those he loved.
Lew is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Jodi Seigworth Kamin and their daughter Sarah
(Brogan) Beard, of Bellefonte,PA; and his children from a prior marriage, Hayley (Brian) Flack of
Rockville, MD, Stephanie (Josh) Rubel of Atlanta, GA, and Marc (Christen) Kamin of Blue Bell,
PA; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Chloe, Layla, Eli, Talia, David, Isaac, Livia, and
Maya. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Lori (Tracy) Mackereth of Manassas, VA and his
nephew, Alex Maceda of State College, PA. He will be lovingly remembered by his extended
family and many dear friends.
The family will be sitting Shiva at Lew and Jodi's home, 238 Outer Drive, State College, PA, on
Sunday, July 22. Family and friends are welcome to visit throughout the day beginning at 12:00
p.m. Visitation will conclude following the minyan service at 5:30 p.m. Family and friends are
welcome to attend the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centre County PAWS, in honor of
Lew's love for animals.
