With profound sadness, the family of Leslie (Les) Beatty Nye, 71, of Dauphin, announce his passing in the early morning hours of September 11th, 2024 with his son Quinn by his side.
Born in Harrisburg, June 22nd, 1953, to the late Gerald Paul and Doris Beatty Nye, Les graduated from Central Dauphin High School in 1971 and the University of Delaware in 1975. As a star football player in both high school and college, he carried his athletic spirit into every aspect of his life, demonstrating the same dedication and teamwork on the field as he did in his professional and personal pursuits.
Les pursued an engineering career in Ultrasound Technology, with emphasis on Advanced Process Development and Materials Engineering, where he became one of the foremost process engineers in Non-Destructive Testing. He solved transducer manufacturing issues and developed innovative processes on numerous projects while working for companies including GE, Echo Ultrasound, RD Tech and Olympus NDT, which included a project for NASA following the Columbia Shuttle failure. Les gained many patents along the way and was highly regarded for his outstanding mentorship and ability to identify strengths in others.
Aside from his profession, Les was an avid motorcycle and bicycle enthusiast who spent countless hours enjoying his passion for riding, introducing people to the sport, and helping friends find the perfect bike. Music was another of his great loves. Whether it be a live concert or a favorite song, Les found joy in the rhythm of life and in sharing that joy with others. His text messages, often accompanied by song recommendations, were a testament to his thoughtfulness and his desire to connect with friends and family through the universal language of music and shared memories.
Les was a loving and devoted brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Mary (Montgomery-Fritz), sister Johnette (Jackie) Dameshek, sons Quinn and Philip Nye, their mother Kathy, stepchildren Matthew (Rachel), Lauren, and Addey Fritz, as well as 5 beloved grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Les was predeceased by his parents Gerald and Doris Nye, brother Gerald Patrick Nye, sister Linda Tooles, and brothers-in-law Arthur Tooles and Fred Dameshek.
To honor the many ways he touched our lives and hearts, a Celebration of Life will be held at Les and Mary’s Dauphin property on October 19th, 2024 from 1-4PM EST. Please email lesnyememorial@gmail.com for more details or to RSVP.
