Kimberly Noel Rogers (Hollingsworth), of Los Angeles, California and Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, 77, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday, May 27th. She was surrounded by those who loved her.
Born to William and Mercedes in Whittier, California, Kimberly's childhood was spent in the Los Angeles area. She and her younger brother, Cameron grew up during the 50s and 60s - an exciting time in SoCal. She developed a love for music, literature, and the beautiful California landscapes.
Kimberly was a woman ahead of her time, a female sales rep with serious grit, working for Ingersoll Rand in the Southwestern United States. She experienced beautiful drives and developed many long lasting friendships along the way, including with the love of her life, Jay.
Kimberly hosted many beloved pets and outdoor wildlife at their home, including her very favorite cats, Ben and Cameo. She supported many animal rights organizations, and was always at the ready to rescue any animal needing saving. An avid birdwatcher, Kimberly loved spending time looking out over the backyard and enjoying hearing all of the chirping, chittering, and buzzing.
Kimberly was a fervent supporter of the arts, and traveled to see many a theater performance (Cats was a true favorite) and concert (Hoyt Axton, James Taylor, The Beatles, Peter Paul & Mary, and Stevie Wonder to name a few). She loved the time she spent at the Palomino, the Tahitian Village, and the Golden Bear hearing her favorite musicians perform. She had a beautiful voice, and could often be heard singing her favorite songs. She also was extremely well read, and especially enjoyed the genres of mystery, history, biography, politics, and poetry. She often recited poems by A. A. Milne, and read so many bedtime stories.
Kimberly was an outstanding and devoted mother, providing an immense amount of activities for her daughter - Girl Scouts, Odyssey of the Mind, ballet, soccer, marching band, cats, magic, gymnastics, birthday sleepover parties, bowling, Scranton Times newspaper delivery, ecology club, sculpting, drawing, and innumerable educational field trips. Kimberly was also an artist of many mediums, ranging from textiles and sculpey, to pen, pencil, and culinary delights. She was a talented seamstress: hemming and altering garments, providing impeccable fashion advice and gifts, and creating numerous creative Halloween costumes from scratch (Ninja Turtle complete with removable shell, unicorn, statue on pedestal, and can can dancer - just to name a few). Kimberly loved to doodle and also work on more involved sketches, too. Many will remember her epic decorated cakes that were a part of so many celebrations in the neighborhood.
Kim's culinary talents were second to none, and graced dining room tables on countless occasions. She had an exceptional knack for developing and perfecting recipes, and all involved in the research and development phase were very grateful. Leftovers were a special treat, and savoring family favorites like cranberry orange relish, Swedish nuts, and pumpkin pie kept the celebration going long past the holiday.
Kim had a few lesser but very important hobbies. A proud thwarter of scam and telemarketer efforts. An adept spider assassin. A dedicated supporter of local and international charities and those in need. The most thoughtful and attentive note writer and rememberer of important dates. Kimberly imparted a sincere love for music, literature, fair and equal rights, wildlife, and all things culinary to all of those around her.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 40 years, Jay, her daughter Tiffany and partner Andy (the son she never had), her step- daughter Alison (and husband Courtney and daughter Amelia), her brother Cameron, her aunt Dolores, her cousin Alan, best friend Paula, many dear friends, two house cats, and the many neighborhood cats, chipmunks, squirrels, and birds that visited the yard.
Our family would like to thank her entire care team at Dr. Martin Hyzinski's practice, and especially for Dr. Stacey Su for setting her on a course to have an additional 17 cherished years on this earth.
A celebration of life will be organized at a later date to honor Kimberly.
In lieu of flowers, our family asks for a donation (time, volunteering, or financial - all benefit the greater good) to many of the organizations she supported over the years: Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, Pocono Wildlife and Rehabilitation Center, Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, Friends of the Earth, American Cancer Association, United Neighborhood Centers (Scranton), and many more. We also ask that you hold your loved ones close, treat all with kindness and compassion, and remember that time is so very precious and limited. Make it count.
