John Roger Smith, 93, passed away peacefully, as he was surrounded by family, on August 29th, 2025. John was born on August 17 th , 1932, in Lansdale, PA to John and Elizabeth Smith (Holly). John resided in Lehighton, PA with his wife, Beatrice C. Smith (Renninger), until her passing last year, for the last 25 years. They were married for 72 years. John is survived by six children and their spouses: Brenda and Lowell Myers; Jack and Eileen Smith; Ronald Smith and Lawrence Sarwono; David and Deena Smith; Kathleen Smith; and Michael and Karen Smith. He lived for and loved his family, including 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. An avid fisherman and hunter, John continued to enjoy the outdoors into his 90s-tagging his final deer during last year's hunting season. He was a proud member of the Fantail Gun Club in Tioga County for 15 years, before relocating to Upstate New York. John and Beatrice were passionate horse enthusiasts, having owned several horses over the years. One of their most cherished was Rocky's Taurus (Gus), a remarkable racehorse whose tragic injury echoed that of the famed Barbaro-a loss that deeply affected them both. By trade, John was a highly respected tile and carpet installer and the proud owner of John R. Smith & Sons. He was widely regarded as one of the best in the area during his career. Even in his later years, John remained active-splitting wood, mowing, and gardening-pursuits he truly loved. As per his wishes, John will be cremated, his ashes will be interred alongside his wife, Beatrice. A brief graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on November 1, 2024, at Christ Union Cemetery, located across the street from the Trumbauersville Fire Station (142 Allentown Rd., Trumbauersville, PA). Following the service, a celebration of John's life will take place from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at West End Fire Co., 1319 Park Ave., Quakertown, PA (catered by C&C Catering).
