Franklin G. Summerson, Sr. mostly know as “Frank”, age 88 years, passed from this world from complications of a stroke, October 19, 2018, at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, PA, with his daughter Melonie by his side. He resided at Byrnedale PA, formerly from Grant and South Williamsport, PA.
Frank was born and raised in Renovo, PA and graduated from Renovo High School In 1950. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, 1950-1954, serving in England. He attended Eastern Bible Institute, Green Lane, PA now the University of Valley Forge. He was owner/operator of Summerson’s Contracting for 35 years in Williamsport, PA. He was of the Christian faith and attended church as he was able throughout his life.
He was born July 26, 1930, in Renovo, PA., a son of the late Allen Summerson and Louise Graw Summerson. He is survived by his children: Crystal D.(Dennis)Beck, Lancaster, PA, Melonie G.A.(Doug)Romig, Milroy, PA, Franklin G.(Theresa) Summerson Jr., DuBoistown, PA, Matthew P. (Lorrie) Summerson, South Williamsport, PA, Lea-Lea B. Summerson, Williamsport, PA, Roslyn Gursky, Elk County and the late Allen Gursky. He is also survived by his companion, Ann Gursky, a nephew he helped raise, Carl H. Summerson, Harrisburg and former wife, Peggy A. English Yoder, Lancaster, PA, 17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by five siblings: Louise Robbins, Luther Summerson, Laura Romano, Walter Summerson and Oda (Bonnie) Mansfield and a niece he helped raise, Carol Summerson.
Frank discovered Elk county in 1976 where he bought a camp in Grant, PA. He loved being with the love of his life Ann, as well as spending time with his children. He enjoyed country music, flea markets, gardening and the Senior Center he attended in St Mary’s. Earlier in life he taught himself how to play guitar and enjoyed many hours of playing at home. He was an avid hunter into his 70s.
He was cremated by Cremation Specialists of Pennsylvania, and a graveside service will be held next summer at Fairview cemetery in Farewell, near Renovo.
